Frequently Asked Questions

What is breastmilk & memorial jewelry?

Breastmilk and memorial jewelry is a deeply personal way to preserve life’s most meaningful moments. Using your own breastmilk, ashes, hair, placenta, flowers or other cherished inclusions, each piece is handcrafted into a resin stone and set in demi-fine jewelry. The result is a wearable keepsake which serves as a tangible reminder of your journey, your loved ones, and the memories you hold close.

How do I know it is my breastmilk, ashes, hair, etc.?

We take the utmost care to ensure your keepsake is made exclusively with the materials you provide. Each order is handled individually, labeled carefully, and processed with strict attention to detail. Your breastmilk, ashes, hair, or other meaningful materials are never mixed with anyone else’s, giving you confidence that your piece is truly one-of-a kind and deeply personal.

Will my jewelry match what I see on the website?

Every piece we create is one-of-a-kind. Because each stone is carefully handcrafted using your milk or inclusions, natural variations in color, texture, and details (like gold or silver flakes) are expected and celebrated! These subtle differences make your jewelry uniquely yours, turning it into a personal keepsake that can never be exactly replicated.

How much milk or memorial material is required for my order?

Milk:
I need 2 teaspoons per piece of jewelry. Milk can be fresh, thawed, frozen, or expired — just be sure it is not moldy. If frozen, allow it to thaw before shipping to reduce condensation. Any leftover preserved milk will be safely stored for 3 years so you can add to your collection, request a replacement, or combine milk from future children.

If you have a low milk supply and are worried about the amount needed, please reach out here. Together, we can decide on an amount that feels right for you while still allowing me to create your special keepsake.

Even just a few drops can hold a lifetime of meaning.

Ashes:
I need 1 teaspoon per piece. Any ashes not used will be carefully packaged and mailed back with your completed jewelry.

Hair:
Just a few strands are needed for each piece.

For other inclusions or special requests, please reach out here so we can discuss the exact quantity needed for your design.

Can you explain the difference between your metal options?

Solid Gold
Solid gold jewelry is made entirely of gold (10k, 14k, or 18k). It will never wear off or tarnish, making it the most durable and luxurious option — perfect for heirloom pieces meant to last for generations.

Gold-Filled
Gold-filled jewelry has a thick layer of solid gold that’s pressure-bonded to a base metal. With 100x more gold than gold-plated jewelry, it’s long-lasting, tarnish-resistant, and an excellent choice if you want high-quality jewelry without the solid gold price tag.

Gold-Plated
Gold-plated jewelry has a very thin layer of gold over a base metal. It’s the most affordable option, but the finish may wear off over time, especially with daily wear, making it less ideal for lifelong keepsakes.

Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is made of 92.5% pure silver and is bright, beautiful, and classic. Though it can naturally tarnish, regular cleaning will keep it looking stunning. It’s a timeless and budget-friendly option for meaningful keepsakes.

Our Recommendation:
For most customers, gold-filled or sterling silver offer the perfect balance of quality, beauty, and affordability, making them ideal for cherished keepsake jewelry you’ll love to wear every day.

How long will it take to create my keepsake?

Each piece is made by hand with great care and intention, which means creating your keepsake takes time. My current turnaround time is 4–6 weeks and begins once your milk or inclusions have been received and checked in. This allows me to give every step, from preserving your inclusions to setting your stone, the attention it deserves so your jewelry is as meaningful and beautiful as the memories it holds.

If you need your piece sooner, rush orders can sometimes be accommodated. Please reach out here before placing your order so we can discuss availability.

How do I send you my milk or memorial inclusions?

You are responsible for mailing your milk, ashes, hair, or other inclusions to me. When you follow my packaging instructions, shipping typically costs around $4–$5 within the US. If you are local to the metro-Milwaukee area, we can arrange a convenient drop-off. Your inclusions are precious, and I take every step to handle them with care once they arrive. See Mailing Instructions for step-by-step guidance to safely prepare and send your keepsake materials.

How do I care for my keepsake?

Remove Before Water
Take off your jewelry before washing hands, showering, bathing, or swimming.
While water-resistant, prolonged exposure can weaken settings and dull your stone.

Protect from Sun & Heat
Avoid storing or wearing jewelry in direct sunlight.
High heat or UV light can weaken the resin and compromise stone strength.

Avoid Chemicals
Remove jewelry before applying lotions, hand sanitizer, perfumes, or creams.
Avoid harsh soaps and cleaning products; alcohol is safe for metal only.

Remove Before Bed
Take off all jewelry before sleeping.
Body oils and overnight pressure can dull or wear your piece over time.

Handle with Care
Avoid sharp surfaces; layering pieces can cause scratches.
Check settings periodically by gently wiggling the stone.

Cleaning & Storage
Clean gently with cool water and mild soap; dry with a soft cloth.
Never use harsh cleaners or ultrasonic machines.
Store in the provided soft bag, in a cool, dark, dry place away from sunlight and heat.

Can I make changes or request a refund after my order is placed?

Because each piece is made just for you, all sales are final and we do not offer returns, refunds, or exchanges on custom jewelry. I want you to feel confident in your order, so you have 24 hours after placing your order to reach out if you need to make changes. After that time, your order will move into production and cannot be altered.

To avoid delays, please double-check your ring size, metal choice, personalization, and shipping address before submitting your order. Every keepsake is crafted with care and attention, and I take every step to ensure your piece is as beautiful and meaningful as the memories it holds.

Do you offer a guarantee for my keepsake?

Each piece is lovingly handcrafted, and your breastmilk is carefully preserved to create a keepsake meant to last a lifetime. It’s very rare for a preserved stone to discolor, but if it does due to a preservation error, it will typically happen within the first 3 months after your order is completed. Because of this, I offer a 3-month guarantee on all breastmilk stones.

To help your jewelry stay beautiful, please follow our jewelry care Instructions, including removing your piece before bathing or showering, avoiding direct sunlight and prolonged heat, keeping it away from harsh chemicals, and not submerging it in water for long periods. Your jewelry is made with high-quality, water-resistant resin with a UV-resistant additive to help protect it, but gentle care is essential.

If your jewelry does become discolored within the first 3 months, I will gladly examine it. If I determine that the discoloration was caused by a preservation error and not by improper care, I will lovingly remake your piece for you — you would just cover the cost of shipping. Your memories matter deeply to me, and I want you to have a piece you can treasure for years to come.

Do you offer custom pieces?

Yes, I do create custom pieces! Please contact me to discuss your ideas, and we can work together to see if it’s feasible. I’d love to explore how we can bring your vision to life in a way that’s both meaningful and lasting.
